SLASA Library Link Up

SLSA Library Link Up - Prince Alfred College Preparatory Library

Held at Prince Alfred College Preparatory Library on Wednesday 24 November 2021 to join with other library professionals to "Speed Date" and share successful outcome, ideas and best practice.

Group discussion topics included: Establishing reading groups in your library; Collecting evidence; Class sets and reading lists; Collection management (including stocktaking and reports); Displays and collaboration with students, teachers and leadership.

A Zoom option was available for regional members.

The annual library tours event was held at St Michael's College at Henley Beach on Thursday 18 November 2021.
It was a great opportunity to visit the school and see their renovated library space and be part of a Q&A session with the staff.

Presented by Dr Marissa Bond, a qualified teacher with a PhD in software development and special education. Marissa has a love of cutting edge tech and a passion for seeing it used effectively in the classroom. We were introduced to the wonderful world of extended reality, including handheld and immersive VR systems and a variety of apps and AR/VR creation tools. We could try it for ourselves and explore how these technologies can be used across the curriculum and with students of diverse needs and backgrounds.
Ideal for school library staff and STEM teachers.

Sessions presented by Jane Moore (CBCA-SA and SLASA Committee): 'What to do after Level 30' and 'Setting up class libraries' and Hajnalka Molloy (SLASA Committee): 'Diversity in collections' and 'School libraries 101'.

Held on 9 and 10 July 2021 at East Adelaide Primary School

There was a celebratory dinner on 9 July at the Adelaide Zoo.

SLASA and CBCSA hosted two days of professional development for teacher librarians, librarians, support staff, teachers and lovers of literature and literacy.

Keynote speakers were Sami Bayly and Jennifer LaGarde, and there were a variety of workshops to choose from.

SACE Literature Evening


SLASA held its annual SACE Literature Evening on Thursday 13 May 2021.
Participants could choose to attend face to face or online (with Zoom).
The face to face event was held at the Burnside Library in the events area and was the first event SLASA held in partnership with the Library.

Featured were Tracey Dorian (Head of English at Cabra); Pat Pledger (ReadPlus) and Silvana Jenkins (Films) to stimulate ideas to use with SACE English students.
We also collected ideas from those attending about book and film titles and other activities that have been successful for sharing after the event.

ASLA 2021 Virtual National Conference "Keys to Learning"

SLASA partnered with ASLA for the 2021 Virtual National Conference on 12-13 April 2021.
The theme for the conference was "Keys to Learning" and the strands underpinning the theme were Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity.
The conference also provided a Trade Fair and a range of social activities (including events here in SA).

SLASA Annual General Meeting

Held on Monday 15 February 2021 at Cabra Dominican College, Monica Farrelly Atrium (Library) and online via Zoom.

As well as the AGM business we also celebrated the achievements of 2020, outlined our plans for 2021, and presented awards and life memberships.
