Advocacy

SLASA is the ‘Voice for School Libraries’ in SA. We promote the importance of school libraries and the impact that qualified staff have on students and teachers. We support campaign projects and activities that help members to advocate for school libraries.

SLASA partners with Student Need School Libraries and has committee members with leading roles in the National campaign which informs and engages with parents about school libraries and sparking them into action to advocate at their child’s school.

Legislative Council Motion

As a direct result of meetings with a range of politicians in 2020 and 2021, Tammy Franks successfully tabled a motion that recognised the importance of work done in school libraries

SLASA in action

  Adelaide Writer’s Week

In March 2023 SLASA sponsored the Kids Day and Middle Grade and YA days at Adelaide Writers Week. During this time, the SLASA committee supported the event with a range of activities and promoting the role of school library staff.

Spotlight Seminar for school leaders 10th May 2023

School Leaders empowering research, literacy and well-being: making the most of your school library.

This inaugural session for school leaders will focus on the impact of school libraries and their staff in developing students skills in research, literacy and supporting their well-being.

Dr Margaret Merga - lead Australian researcher in the field of school libraries will share the latest research on this topic. Principals from across sectors and year levels will present on the impact and importance of their school libraries, followed by an open panel to allow leaders to discuss the core issues around school libraries.
