SLASA's 2025 Literature Evening offers a unique opportunity for school library staff, English teachers, and primary educators to explore innovative approaches to literature in schools. The event challenges you to consider questions like: Where can you find the best adventure books in your library? and Can AI find the perfect text pairings? These questions set the stage for a dynamic program designed to spark fresh ideas and foster meaningful discussions.

Two Concurrent Streams:

Primary/Middle School Stream:

  • New Books Presentation
    Presentation by Angela Eckermann (ALS)
An overview of current new books available and upcoming releases, tailored for primary and middle school libraries.

  • Awesome Aussie Adventures
Session led by Katie Silva (Wilderness School)

Many of the best book adventures might not live in the Adventure genre. Let's go on an adventure together through different times and places, inner and outer worlds, scientific and fantastical stories and books. We make some interesting discoveries and connections, indulge our curiosity and sense of adventure and perhaps end up in unexpected places.

SACE English Stream:

  • Ctrl + F(iction): Can AI Find the Perfect Text Pairings?
Session led by Lucy De Palma (St Ignatius College)

As AI continues to shape education, how useful is ChatGPT in supporting students to pair texts or films for their Intertextual Study? This session will explore the effectiveness and limitations of AI in literary analysis, helping you guide students in making meaningful connections between texts.

  • New Books Presentation
    Presentation by Angela Eckermann (ALS)
An overview of current new books available and upcoming releases, with a focus on supporting SACE English and enriching literary resources.

Tea and coffee on arrival with a light supper during the event.
