Professional Learning 

SLASA run a number of events throughout the year to benefit our members and support the Professional Development of all staff working in a school library setting. 

Our goal is to:

  • Ensure that Teacher librarians’ and other library staff professional standing and qualifications are promoted and strengthened.
  • Provide relevant professional learning opportunities for school library staff.
  • Find suitable pathways for improvement in qualifications for those wishing to work in school libraries are encouraged and established.
  • Promote relevant professional learning offered by other organisations.
  • Ensure that SLASA members are supported to participate in and offer professional learning.

    St Peter’s College, an Anglican R-12 all-boys school, was established in 1847 with library services operating since 1900. We invite you to join us for a tour of our Junior and Senior Libraries, including our Rare Books Collection, followed by afternoon tea.

    Students, it's time to get creative!

    Enter our Bookmark Design Competition with the theme "Brighter Futures" and show us your vision for a hopeful tomorrow.

    Submit your designs for a chance to win a fantastic prize and inspire readers everywhere!

    The SLASA Bookmark Design Competition 2024 opens Wednesday 7 August 2024 and closes Friday 6 September 2024.

    Who can enter?

    There are four age categories based on your school year.

    Years 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.

    One entry per person.

    What is the prize?

    The winner of each category will win a $50 book voucher.

    Winning bookmarks will be professionally printed and distributed to schools across South Australia.

    How do I enter?

    Step 1 - Create your bookmark design

    Use the theme to inspire your creative design. Download the Bookmark Design template. Create your bookmark design in the space provided.

    Step 2 - Submit your entry online

    Click on the 'Register' button to fill out the entry form and upload your completed Bookmark Design template.

    Entries must be original.

    The winners will be announced 14 October 2024.

    CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

    1. Bookmark design entries must be the original work of the entrant.
    2. Entrants retain the copyright of their work and agree to grant The School Library Association of South Australia the right to use the bookmark design and supporting information for the purpose of researching and promoting South Australian School Libraries and may be used in marketing materials, displays and publications.
    3. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
    4. Entries must be submitted before COB Friday 6 September 2024. Entries must be submitted via the SLASA website.
    5. There is a limit of one entry per student.
    6. Entrants under 18 must have parental consent to enter. The entrants' parent or guardian warrants that the work submitted is original and does not infringe the copyright or moral rights of any third party, and that the entrant owns all the rights and interests in the work submitted.
    7. Winners will be notified by 14 October and bookmarks professionally printed and distributed to schools in October.
